Our Jazz Series of Field Trips and Tours are made possible by a partnership with the New Orleans Jazz Museum. Jazz developed out of the vast musical styles in New Orleans, including African and Afro-Caribbean music at Congo Square, work songs, opera, spirituals, march music, dance music, blues and ragtime.
New Orleans, Louisiana. The birthplace of jazz and the many idioms that followed. This cultural experience will place you in the streets of New Orleans where jazz music still bubbles up in the most unique places as well as introduce you to one of the great purveyors of many jazz idioms....Louis Prima. New Orleans born, Sicilian descent, and the King of the Swingers. Prima's musical career spanned traditional jazz of the 1920's, swing music of the 1930's, and his 1940's band popularized jump blues music. Special guests on every tour will provide an in depth connection to the music and culture of New Orleans' Sicilians. The tour ends at the New Orleans Jazz Museum exhibit The Wildest! Louis Prima Comes Home.
Each participant receives a specialty Bingo card that enhances the experience and connects guests further with jazz and the New Orleans community.
Big Easy Bingo, in partnership with the New Orleans Jazz Museum, has curated a cultural experience that will place you in the streets of New Orleans where the bamboula rhythm is heard in all the curves of the Crescent City. Our docents will introduce you to local master artists and culture bearers on a stroll through Congo Square, Faubourg Treme, and Esplanade Ridge. This engaging experience will culminate at the New Orleans Jazz Museum exhibits and the historical DRUMSVILLE and the emotional PURPOSE AND PASSION: PHOTOGRAPHY by ERIC WATERS exhibits.
Guests will move in small groups through the museum allowing ample time to engage with the special guests in each exhibit. These personal experiences can create connections that last a lifetime.
This cultural experience will place you in the streets of New Orleans where jazz music still bubbles up in the most unique places. Specially trained docents begin with an historical jazz walking tour along the river and lower Quarter. Guides explore the vast cultural influences that came up and down the river and influenced New Orleans music and gave rise to the great American art form, jazz.
